Devices that are part of a setup class that is marked as a NoDisplayClass in the registry for example, printers and non-PnP drivers. Devices that were physically removed from the computer but whose registry entries were not deleted also known as nonpresent devices. Thus there are no such devices to view in the Device Manager. Users should never have to view nonpresent devices because a nonpresent device should not have their attention and should not cause any problems.
If a user has to view your device when it is not present, there is likely a problem with your driver design. However, during testing, a developer might have to view such devices. To include hidden devices in Device Manager display, select View and select Show hidden devices. After you set this environment variable, run Device Manager and select Show hidden devices.

As you expand the different drivers and devices in the device manager, you will see not only the items that Windows currently detects as installed on your PC; but you will also see drivers, devices, and services which have been loaded in the past but were not uninstalled or are not currently started. You can find your offending device, right-click, and choose uninstall to remove it from the system completely. Only remove items you know you do not need.
Click OK. Go to the View menu in Device Manager and click on Show hidden devices. Scroll down to the Ports section and you will be able to see all the hidden and unused COM ports.
In this particular example, there are seven hidden COM ports showing. You will now be able to see all hidden devices every time you enable Show hidden devices in Device Manager.
To delete a particular port, click to highlight it and hit the Delete key on your keyboard. After you have deleted the unused and hidden COM ports, the list will show only those COM ports you use or may use in the future during the procedure, you may have to scroll back down Device Manager to get back to the Ports section. There are a couple of ways to get to the Device Manager.
The easiest way, if you have a My Computer icon on your desktop, is to right-click My Computer and go to Properties. You will notice if you go to the View menu in Device Manager and click on Show hidden devices , that nothing changes in your Ports list. Then open Device Manager from the cmd window by typing start devmgmt.
